Winter weddings are usually few and far between but I am finding that I get a few more each year now and I think it is due to the venues being so booked up in Auckland now. One bonus is that the flowers in season in the winter are a little different especially for the whimsical unkempt look that is so popular at the moment. These posies were of freesias, roses, blossom, hypericum berries, succulents, dusty miller, stocks, earlicheer and flowering pieris. If your going for this particular style it's best if you can give a colour palate and leave the rest to the florist. That way they can choose the best blooms in season to create all the different textures for the style.

DIY mason jars
I've been messing around with mason jars and a splash of paint this week. They have so many uses....who would've thought?!! I can imagine rustic posies in these as a cheap vase alternative at vintage weddings. For the bottom photo I've added a few tablespoons of leftover house paint in the bottom of each jar, swirled it around and tipped it upside down to dry so that they are still glass on the outside. For my distressed mason jars (top photo) go to www.palmersplanet.co.nz for the full DIY instructions.

spring lemons and creams
Roses, freesia and jonquils make this pretty posy.
Fairy flower wands made from mini rose buds are becoming
a very popular and cheaper option for flower girls to hold.
These can be jazzed up with a sprinkle of glitter if desired! Cute!

Matakana Stables Wedding
The reception for this wedding was at Stables restaurant in Matakana. We used a collection of jars for the flower vessels to create a vintage look to tie in with the rustic venue. The brides bouquet was a mix of renuculas, roses, tulips and lambs ear in peachy pinks and whites. The brides maids had a more simpler bouquet of Gypsophila.
